Project 1 Reflection

At first I did not go in to the depth that was desired. Through the workshop I have gained the depth that I was desired. I was analyzing the Basement of the MU, which to my knowledge most of the students were analyzing as well. The workshop helped make my thesis stronger and go more in depth in the body of the paper. I was just stating the purpose of the things and the furniture. Going in to the depth was a problem for me at first. Where I also struggled was with finding a lens. I had not understood what one was in the grammar and English sense. What I felt that I had done well in was refining my paper and format. I have learned learned what a lens is and how to analyze. At first I had thought an analysis was an opinionated summary. With that idea in mind I had just listed everything and think that to analyze one just has to state the purpose. Know I know how to analyze and apply it and go into more depth than what was asked. I know know how to improve on using quotations to further my argument. I just generalized what the quote said like paraphrasing that did not help my argument much.  How I might process this work out side is if I would be a journalism major. I would also use this information for understanding why theses events are established.

My idea was that the MU basement just was for social and economic reasons, that was not a valid argument. I then went in depth saying that the Basement imposes sociably through community. I had used the ideas of Vanclay and applied it to the event of MU after Dark, people are celebrating their connection to ASU.

Basically it took me some time to understand the question. Then It took me time to form a strong argument to form as well. I felt that it took some help to form a strong argument and to also make a thesis. I felt from that help I was able go ion to the depth that was asked. I have learned now to analyze and to form a lens. I can apply this to writing an article about it for journalism. I did not know how to really analyze so now I do .I have now learned what to expect.

An interesting subject.  What is unusual about your place?  Alternatively, is there something ordinary about it that you can show in an intriguing way?

-Show that the Basement of the MU is for monetary gain.

Any necessary background.  What background information will you need to include about the place in order to situate readers?
-I would need to tell that this place is downstairs of the MU

An interesting angle.  Rather than trying to tell readers everything about the place, what angle(s) might you use?
-That it is a social economic purpose.

A firsthand account.  Did you interact with people in the place or participate in some way?  What experiences did you have there that you can write about using “I”?  (Yes, first person point of view is encouraged, especially for this paper.)

-People were asked questions and that have responded. Insight was asked and they have put their input.

Engaging details.  What specific information must you include in your description of the place?  What potential does your place have for the use of sensory images, figurative language, dialogue, anecdotes, and showing rather than telling?  What do you want the dominant impression to be?

-Tell random happenings that have occurred here. I would use that this place is communal but also to get money.

Generating Ideas and Text (taken from the Norton Field Guide (Goggin and Bullock) Chapter 16, pages 168-169)

-No

Do additional research.  Does your place have an online component?  How else might you gather additional research?
-It does not have a specific page for the basement of the MU. I might ask people who were here longer than me.

Analyze your findings.  What patterns, images, or recurring ideas or phrases did you use to describe your place?  What contrasts or discrepancies do you see?
-I see community and a place to eat.

Come up with an angle.  What is most memorable about your subject?  What most interests you?  What will interest your audience?
-How that this place is a communal place is what interests me. I think that the place might interest people by telling them the things that stand out.

Analysis of Resident Evil 6 Preview cover

The magazine cover that will be analyzed is the cover to Game Informer's Resident Evil 6 preview cover. This Game had been released at the video game expo, E3. This Game is to follow up on Capcom's Resident Evil 5. The cover for Resident Evil 6 shows the characters Leon Kennedy who is wearing shoulder holsters and magazine clip holders and the new character Jake. They are fighting a large deformed zombie/monster that has no shirt no face and metal contraptions on it's arms. This is to show the characters who are playable and the enemies that you will have to fight. The background is mostly in fire at what seems like a shipping yard location. This is to show the high octane action that will be part of the game. This game is supposed to be a high tension survival/ horror game. This cover is to draw the attention of the fans of the Resident Evil series. The series has been around since 1998 on the early PlayStation one and other systems. Game Informer is marketing this to release one of the years highly anticipated game through action and horror. So what this seems violent, who is the audience? As stated before, the audience is aimed at the fans of video games but that is a range of 5 of 56 for example. The Game has been given the rating of "M" for mature audiences buy the E.S.R.B, the entertainment software rating board. The game is rated M for  blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong language, and suggestive themes, clearly this is a long list. The M rating is to aim at 17 or older. What have come a long way at what we put in to games. We now see detailed examples of gore shown and the language put came a long way as well in this game the "f-bomb" is used. This is probably because we as a society have become desensitized to violence and suggestive themes. Killing things either zombies or humans does not phase some people, this might be because they are not physically doing the act of killing that zombie, demon, or human another person is doing it by just pressing a button. That is why there is a rating board I do not think that it is a good idea to have a 4 year old playing Resident Evil that may have psychological effects on a child.  Children are seeing violence and are not phased and are reacting to it by pretending to react what was seen. That is why it is a good idea to follow the E.S.R.B.

Online assignment one

With the advancement of technology in gaming systems we either do not know what will be next or we will stay with our current gaming systems. We have come far advanced from the graphics and operating power from that of the classical game Pong. The newest console, the Wii U, the next operating system to the Wii has been shown to people who spend time playing video games are skeptical about this new system. The Cloud system seems to be next in production for the new systems. The Cloud system is online storage capability, where CDs are no longer used to insert into the system, it is all online. There are other people who want to see more out of the system, like an alternate reality visor. (source,http://www.npr.org/blogs/alltechconsidered/2012/08/24/159918978/is-the-cloud-in-gamers-future)

I think that the purpose of this article was to inform and entertain the reader by following up on the state on gaming systems. The audience intended are people who play video games who want to know more about the future of video games, the Cloud System of online storage. The source above contains the response of people who like to play video games, game developers, and analysts.

I liked this article because I love video games. I found the article interesting seeing the gap of what is wanted and the age of the people. The older people don't  know what they want out if their systems.  They are content with their current systems. On the other hand they have new ideas for their systems. They want more futuristic peripherals. The older do not think that it is a good idea to have the Cloud either. They think it will ruin the game experience with problems like lag and connection problems.

Another reason I liked this article because  I run on the older system, the PlayStation2. I  can get my games of very low prices. I like to know what components that will go into the new systems, whether it be a new engine or online capabilities and storage. I do like the idea of the Cloud System on theory but I do agree with the older people who think that the Cloud System could downplay the game experience.
